Velocity Striders are going for GOLD!

You’re going to want to look for these names in the news over the next coming months: Jermaine Kerkula, Kenneth Wilson, Gavin Hardin, Jeremy Hardin, Elias Madrid, Dante’ Weaver, Corey Hedgspeth and Isaac Hammond. Why do you ask? Well, these young men, ranging in ages 14 to 18, are part of The Velocity Striders Track Club.  They recently qualified to compete in the Junior Olympics in New Orleans, LA between August 1-6, 2011. This is the first time that Columbia County has had this many athletes from one team qualify for such a prestigious event against the best that Track and Field has to offer!

They will compete in the following races: 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. The Velocity Striders Track Club, currently in it’s second year of existence, is led by Head Coach Michael Johnson. Coach Johnson, a North Augusta native, is a former NCAA National Champion in the 4x100m relay.

The parents, coaches, and most of all, the competing athletes should be VERY proud! You can find out more about The Velocity Striders Track Club by contacting the Head Coach, Michael Johnson by contacting 706-833-7039! Congratulations Team and Augusta is ROOTING FOR YOU!!!!
