Movie Night – Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows
One generation had Star Wars. One had Back To The Future. This generation has Wizards & Sparkly vampires. Last night marked the beginning of the end of an era for some. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2 made it’s debut on screens across the country at 12:01 a.m. and Augusta was no exception. 8 Movies based around 7 books have made their way to the theaters, some in 3D and IMAX. I took a little bit of my time yesterday to go check out the lines at the Regal Augusta Exchange 20 & IMAX to talk to some of the die hard fans of the series. What I found was much more than simple “fans”. We’re talking devotion. When I arrived at 10 a.m., the line had long since began. There were people waiting in line from as early as 4:45 a.m., another fan brought a tent, a few jelly bean incidents, and a very loyal brother that was holding his sisters place in line (and he wasn’t even there to watch the movie himself).
Another thing that made me smile was the fact that there were people that had never met that ended up being great friends while they waited. Something that I absolutely love is how there was absolutely ZERO animosity in the crowd. Everyone was getting along. With so much bickering going on in the news, it’s a breath of fresh air seeing people coming together (even if it’s over something trivial like a movie) and actually having a good time!
I also need to make a note and give HUGE cudos to the Regal staff. They handled everything LIKE A BOSS! Professional, fun, and enjoyable to be around. That is exactly what movie goers need. If you’re an employee at a theater and you’re reading this. Be happy. It’ll make the experience FAR more enjoyable for yourself, and the movie goers alike. Check out some images from the frenzy!
