You’ve heard it before… we love The Bowery located in Aiken’s Historic Downtown Alley.  We think you can’t beat the outdoor dining location.  It’s a favorite of ours for both lunch and dinner.  We’re regulars on a Thursday night if the weather allows.  The bricked patio provides space for the wrought iron tables and chairs, but there is a lush green space where our children love to take their shoes off and play (we always bring our “Bowery Bag” full of toys!).  One of their favorite games is to “fish” with the fallen branches of the Weeping Willow tree on the property.  It has always amazed me that a Weeping Willow has managed to thrive in the middle of Downtown.  On any given night, Hampton, a local musician, can be found serenading the diners with his saxophone (tipping welcome!).  The Municipal Auditorium is next door and at times you can be a bystander to a wedding or other celebration.  While you’re sitting and enjoying the view and passer-bys, order a cocktail (they have fresh squeezed orange juice) or something from the menu.  The chef has upscale daily specials and appetizers, excellent bar food (we love the steak bits, bacon cheeseburger and chicken quesadillas), and entrees (my husband’s favorite is the bone-in pork chop with creamy mac n cheese).  If you’re hoping for lighter fare, order from the Sunset Menu before 6:30 (Tequila Lime Chicken, Broiled Tilapia with white wine, lemon, and butter…).  Running low on funds?  Visit during Happy Hour and enjoy the free daily appetizer.  There’s more to The Bowery than outdoor seating…  screened porch with fireplace, beautiful bar with gleaming wood boasting local equestrian art, and a formal dining room.  Next time you’re in Aiken, stop in, be greeted by owners Sam and Donna,  enjoy the friendly service and wonderful food.
